Overview: Peng Shi Lin’s ancestral provenance was Chang Sha, Hu Nan, China. She adopted the ‘Cui Yuan’ pen name. Peng set foot in Malaya in 1950. She had since embarked on a 25-year long teaching career as the principal of Perak Girls’ School in Ipoh. In addition, Peng taught calligraphy at Ka Yin Association. The adept poet was the president of The Ipoh Fufeng Poetry Society. She published the Chinese classical poetry themed “Ju Cui Yuan Shi Xuan” (Peng’s Poetry Collection), and essays compilation themed “Ye Chuang Xian Hua” (The Casual Evening Thoughts by the Window) and “Shu Chuang Xu Yu” (The Notes from my Study). Peng was one of the advisors and founding members of Persatuan Seni Tulis Malaysia. She sought inspiration from the great works by Yu Shi Nan and Chu Sui Liang. Her calligraphy composition is cleverly panned out in terms of spacing and sizing. The scripting is unpretentious yet vibrant. This well-choreographed showpiece is just fine and stylish while hinting an iron fist in a velvet glove; resolute and earnest.
