Overview: Xiao Yao Tian had a Chao Yang and ethnic Chao origin. The renowned litterateur and calligrapher had his fame spanning across Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. His proud resume includes the appointments as the associate professor of Nanhua University, senior teacher and director for Chinese Language Department at Chung Ling High School (Penang), and committee member in the Curriculum Planning Unit, Federal Education Department, Malaya. He established the ‘Teaching and Learning’ monthly magazine in 1960, a dream that took him 13 years to materialize. The magazine swept across the peninsula with its inspiring contents. Xiao started with various types of tablet calligraphy, followed by Cao Shu calligraphy. He loved to mix both of them in his works. This calligraphy banner speaks volumes for his succinct yet agile cursive-styled calligraphy.
