Overview: Ren Bo Nian was an outstanding painter of the recent era, being a notable figure in Shanghai’s painting arena. He specialized in folk painting, western watercolour painting and sketching. He reinforced his painting with the elements of Chinese realist painting. He was renowned for his talent in fusing traditional Chinese painting’s method, Western approach, literati painting and folk painting into one masterpiece, using his clever brushwork and freehand spontaneity. His favourite subjects were human figures and birds. Famous painter Xu Bei Hong labeled Ren as ‘The leading painter of China after the Chou Shi Zhou era’ in a biography of the latter. The famous couplet by Ren that means “Unshaken consciousness with Buddha in your heart’ was penned on the arch of Neng Ren Temple in Bai Yun Shan, Guang Zhou.
