黄宾虹是中国近现代美术史上的开派巨匠，有“千古以来第一用墨大师”之誉。除山水画之外，其花鸟画也境界不凡，而且还有自己的画学理论建构，并且积极主动地将书法原理运用于绘画中。在他大量文献和谈话中，莫不言及书法对笔墨的实际功用，调墨法本于笔法，笔法又本于书法，至理相通。

Overview: Huang Bin Hong was a pioneer in Chinese modern art. The art fraternity labelled him ‘the virtuoso of Chinese ink-wash painting’. Apart from landscape paintings, Huang’s paintings of flowers and birds were equally legendary. He thrived on his theory of marrying calligraphy and painting for added distinction. The prolific art contributor was resolute in promoting the clever use of ink and brush whenever possible. This is because both disciplines, calligraphy and painting, require a great amount of skills to produce a masterpiece.
